JLS nominated for “Worst Band” by NME

Things aren’t looking good for JLS. After being snubbed at the Brits last week, they’re now just receieved a nomination from NME for ‘Worst Band’.

However, the band are apparently more “disappointed” that their charity work has been overlooked by the awarding body.

Band member Ortise Williams even admitted they were “happy” to receive the Worst Band nomination alongside other acts including 30 Seconds To Mars, Kings Of Leon and The Jonas Brothers.

The singer told the Daily Record: “I’m actually happy that we made it in. Whether it’s for a good thing or a bad thing, we’ve been recognised.”

The ‘Everybody In Love singer then added: “To be totally honest, I was disappointed that NME would even put us up for that award because we’ve brought some thing really significant to music.

“We also do a lot of charity work. So if NME think JLS are the worst band for all the good we’re trying to do, I’d have to question them.”

This is the second time JLS have been nominated for the Worst Group category for the NME awards.

Are JLS really the worst band ever? What do you think?

It’s obvious NME don’t know what they’re talking about…

JLS Interview with MTV News

Following a jam packed year including a sell-out tour and an assault on the US, JLS could have been forgiven for taking a break but instead, JB, Aston, Marvin and Oritse sat down with MTV News to talk about everything from Cowell to condoms…

You guys have just got back off tour, how did it go?

JB: We’ve just finished a 40-date tour around the UK and Ireland and it was incredible. I think everyone had a fantastic vibe. Obviously it is a day-to-day job because it is what we do day in day out, but we love absolutely every minute of it.

Your new single is Eyes Wide Shut Feat. Tinie Tempah, can you tell us a bit about how that collaboration came about?

Marvin: Tinie killed it on the track; it was a track that we’d written first of all in LA, last summer. We’d tried to work with Tinie for a long time. We were either going to feature on something of his or vice versa you know, he heard the track and he wanted to jump on it. Then we got to shoot a video with him. People don’t think he was actually at the video shoot but he was. It was an amazing video for us, and you know everyone at MTV is enjoying it, it’s on all the channels!

JB: Tinie is the most humble guy. He’s always so respectful and I think that transcends through his songs.

Was it weird shooting the video on a green screen? Was it difficult to imagine the finished product, because you couldn’t really tell how it was going to look afterwards?

Oritse: It was our very first time doing it on green screen. The director sat us down and said it was going to be something like Inception, or The Matrix – something along those lines – and we were like, ‘are you being for real?’ When we saw the video for the very first time we couldn’t believe it, because it was everything and more than what he’d described to us!

So we hear that Aston’s was the best selling of the four condoms in your range…..

JB: To be fair we already knew Aston’s would be the best selling.

Marvin: It’s obvious.

JB: When it comes to merchandise, the blue ones always go first!

Aston: Yeah, I feel honoured to be the best selling condom of 2010. Thank you.

Simon Cowell is about to announce the judges for the US version of The X Factor, with names like Nicole Scherzinger, Katy Perry and our Cheryl Cole in the mix – who do you think will get the role?

Oritse: Any one of them would be amazing!

Aston: Yeah, they’re all good for me.

Marvin: Well there are probably going to be two now if it’s like X Factor UK, there are 4 in total if we believe what we read in the paper. I don’t know how true it is that Will Smith was going to be one but Cheryl would be great.

JB: How great would Simon feel just sitting there with three female judges, he would feel like the man.

Marvin: One thing they should definitely have is Dermot O’Leary as host.

Everyone’s talking about Jessie J, espeically as she was named Critics’ Choice at The BRIT Awards 2011, what do you guys think of her?

Oritse: I think that was a great decision because Jessie came out of nowhere and just tore up the charts. Our country’s never had anything like Jessie, she’s got that kind of pop iconic appeal, in the same way that Madonna had and Lady GaGa has for the rest of the world. I think that for someone like Jessie she’s just the realist artist that you can find. She’s a really nice person, she’s a really good-hearted person and I think it’s well deserved.

JLS claim that they ‘NEVER’ argue

The JLS boys say they get on so well with one another that they have never had an argument.

The band, who release new single ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ this week said that they simply don’t get heated in debates and always manage to get along.

Appearing on OK! TV, the band said: “We have never had an argument.” Adding: “We never let things get to that stage. We respect each other and work together well. We all want to achieve the same thing.”

The band, who have hooked up with BRIT Award winner Tinie Tempah on their new single say they reckon ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ is one of their best tracks ever.

“We hope it’s one of our best. We have Tinie Tempah on the track too – amazing for us to do a collaboration with him. We have always wanted to work with him.”

JLS to collaborate with Craig David

Seems like JLS and Craig David were doing more than just sunbathing when we caught up with them in Miami recently, actually they were planning to get down and dirty together – in the music studio of course.
Craig David revealed last night that he and the boyband are going to “collaborate”. The deluded singer said:

“We had fun in Miami when JLS came over. When the shots come out they can handle it, I had a little trouble keeping up to a certain degree!

“We did some work together, but that time they were there just having some play time.

“We’re in talks with them at the moment, Aston and Marvin have become close since meeting up with them and we’re planning to work on some projects together, so until that comes together, they’ll definitely come back to Miami.”

When Craig David talks, our brain hurts – you should know that.

Anyway, the two future collaborees (look at us, we just made up a word!) were coincidentally out and about in London earlier today; JLS were at Radio One while Craig David was at the London TV studios.

Let’s be honest, JLS said they were going to collaborate with Craig David but they were probably making empty promises for the sake of being polite, weren’t they? Like that time we went out and made friends with a random person when we were drunk and promised to go to their birthday party, but then didn’t.

Ortise spent all his money on a special Limo Ride
Filed Under: News & Gossip

JLS star Oritse Williams once spent all his money on a limousine ride to impress a girl.

The boy band heartthrob was determined to organise a special treat for a special lady, but had to convince the driver of the luxury car to give him a discount as he didn’t have enough money to pay the full charge for the vehicle.

He explained to UK radio station KISS: ‘I had no money at the time but still wanted to do something very special for this girl who I thought I was in love with at the time – it was puppy love.

‘So I went to this limousine place and told the guy I only had £200, which I had been saving for months.

‘He just looked at me and said I was crazy, but I eventually convinced him and managed to take my girl for a limo tour of London for the night.’

Oritse isn’t the only member of JLS who has some impressive romantic moves.

His bandmate Jonathan ‘JB’ Gill once organised a secret break for an ex-girlfriend.

Jonathan said: ‘I surprised my girlfriend at the time completely. She was so organised and on the ball it was such a task and a half getting everything sorted, like getting her passport and bag packed without her knowing. I remember picking her up at university and then heading straight for the Eurostar. She was so surprised!’

JLS are thinking big for their next album.

The boyband are already planning the follow-up to last year’s Outta This World and are hoping to bag collaborations with Grenade hitmaker Bruno Mars and Rihanna.

“Every year we want to get bigger and better and work with the best people,” JLS star Marvin Humes explained.
“On this album we’ll be writing with Bruno Mars and hopefully collaborating with him.”

Marvin adds to the Daily Star: “Our main aims for the album are to collaborate with Bruno and Rihanna. We’ve always wanted to work with her since the X Factor and we think it will happen this time.”

JLS: ‘We get girls waiting at hotels’

JLS star Aston Merrygold has revealed that the band are ambushed by girls at their hotels after live shows.

The X Factor boyband spoke about the perks of fame and the attention they get from female fans during an interview with The Daily Telegraph.

Oritsé Williams said: “Imagine you have a bus with loads of beds, and an XBox! And a naked girl runs onto your bus on your birthday!”

Merrygold added: “And you get on a bus, after you’ve done a gig to thousands of screaming girls, and when you get off at the hotel, there are more girls waiting who practically tear your clothes off!”

Bandmate Marvin Humes said: “And then you go to a club, and they’ve closed off the whole VIP section for you, and even the waitresses are beautiful.

“And you go out until like six in the morning, or four if we’ve got to work the next day

‘DOI’ Hamilton reveals JLS support

Dancing On Ice’s Laura Hamilton has said that JLS will be visiting the ITV1 studios to support her on the skating reality show.

Hamilton, who used to work with Aston Merrygold from the boyband, also hinted that the X Factor group may be one of the special guest performers later in the series.

Speaking to DS, she said: “I have Aston from JLS coming down. I used to work with him at CITV when he was a kids television presenter before JLS. So we were texting the other day and he was like, ‘Yeah I’ll come down and support you with the boys’.

“They might even perform on the show, that would be great if they did!”

The Nickelodeon presenter also admitted that she had been tagged as an “adrenaline junkie” by her show rivals, confessing that she is “bit gung-ho” on the ice.

Dancing On Ice starts on Sunday at 6.30pm on ITV1.
